HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2011

Dear San Diego & North County Printmaker,

January is the time to renew memberships in SD&NCP.
Please send your check for $45 payable to SD&NCP to Pat Heusner, 1153 Drifting Circle Dr., Vista CA 92083.

It is the goal of the officers of SD&NCP to offer members,

Two exhibition opportunities a year
Two social events a year, including demonstrations and gallery tours
A website page on www.sdncp.org
Access to our research library housed at the Fallbrook School of the Arts
Tax deductable gift opportunities (SD&NCP is a nonprofit organization)

It is the mission of SD&NCP to promote printmaking through education.

The officers are exploring ways to broaden our exposure as a group of printmakers through the creation of Facebook and blog presence. Of course, we are always looking for exhibition venues. If you can help with any of these please call an officer; contact information is on the website.

Make 2011 the year to get involved, become an officer or committee chair. We need a corresponding secretary, a person to maintain the web bulletin board and a member at large. Officer meetings are usually held every other month.

The Front Porch Gallery exhibition called Transitions is shaping up nicely. The assistant director, Julie Weaverling has done a wonderful job of getting things coordinated. Please do stop by the reception on Saturday, January 15 from noon to 3:00. I will do an educational demonstration at 1:00. The gallery is located at 2903 Carlsbad Blvd., Carlsbad, CA.

Dixon Fish,
President

Greetings to San Diego & North County Printmakers and friends;

The officers have been busy getting applications ready to submit to several exhibition venues. We will let you know as soon as we are accepted so that you can get work ready. Remember that prospective galleries will look at this website so I encourage you to keep the images on your member page current.

September of 2010 looks like it will be a printmaking month in the north county. The Fallbrook School of the Arts will offer a workshop by a past member of SD&NCP who now lives in Kentucky. Freda Fairchild will be in town and we will have a reception for her on Saturday, September 11. As part of the reception for Freda we will have a print and materials exchange – more on this later.

In September I will be working on the wall of prints that I am creating for the new Fallbrook Library. I am doing the history of the Fallbrook area with about 30 etchings done on both zinc and copper. The plates will be mounted to a 10’ x 13’ aluminum frame that will have horizontal landscape shapes. By September I will have a studio set-up at the Fallbrook School of the Arts and you are invited to visit.

Please remember that there are a variety of SD&NCP memberships available. Just check out “Become a Member” on this site. Encourage your business and collector friends to support fine art printmaking by becoming members. Keep printing. See you in September,

N. Dixon Fish

Hi San Diego & North County Printmaker;

In an effort to have a little fun and to get your work updated on the website (www.sdncp.org ) we are going to gather at the Fallbrook School of the Arts on Saturday, November 14 from 10:00 am 'till 2:00 pm. As you may know, galleries and curators that are looking for exhibitions now prefer to look at a lot of work on one website. To remain a viable organization we need everyone to be represented with work on the website.

We will have everything necessary to photograph up to five of your prints and upload them to the website. There is a small fee of $10 per year to cover the cost of the webmaster. We also hope to be able to burn a CD of your five images for the cost of the CD.

Jon Harwood will be there to give a short lecture and demo on "Photographing your own art"; he teaches a workshop in this at the School of the Arts if you want more in-depth information. Jon will give his demo about 10:30.

Bring a bag lunch and hang around for some critique and conversation; find out what your fellow printmakers have been up to. The Fallbrook School of the Arts is located at; 310 Alvarado St. in Fallbrook.

Please RSVP November 9th.

Dixon Fish,
President

The SD&NCP Board of Officers have been working to plan events for this year.
Here are some things to look forward to:

  • Did you get the email from The Fallbrook School of The Arts about the Ron Pokrasso workshop? He will give a one day print session geared to the experienced printmaker. What an opportunity to work with this nationally recognized artist. The workshop will be on Friday, April 10th and is limited to five participants. You can get more information from the Fallbrook School of The Arts website or by calling the school.
  • On Friday, May 22 we will have a BIG print day. We will be using the oversized paper that was gifted to us from the Museum of the Escondido Center for The Arts. The paper size is apx. 31-1/2" X 41-1/2".

This is a NO COST full day of printmaking. Bring your own plates and inks; the paper and use of the press is free to members of SD&NCP. Sorry, but this must be limited to the first four members who respond to this email. If you pencil this out, the day of BIG printmaking is worth more than the cost of membership!

  • Our membership show for 2009 will be part of the EXTREME ART exhibition at the Fallbrook Art Center. You may enter work that in your opinion exhibits some extreme element; this could be the size, the subject, the technical quality, you get the idea. Each artist will submit a statement that explains why the art is extreme. (Now you see why we are having a BIG print day). The EXTREME ART show will open on August, 22 and the following Saturday, August 29 will be a reception and an ART EXPLOSION event of extreme art making. SD&NCP will hold demonstrations of STEAM ROLLER printmaking. Get your ideas and plates ready!
  • We are moving forward with joining the national Print Alliance. This will get us in the loop of national events, exhibitions and further the networking of printmakers.
  • Check out the website: www.sdncp.org <http://www.sdncp.org> , notice that our membership opportunities have been expanded. We are now welcoming students and sponsors at different levels. Keep an eye on the website for other announcements and exhibitions. Have you sent in photos of your work and a statement for your member’s page?

We trust that in these financially difficult times you realize that it is more important than ever to stand together and keep printmaking and printmakers visible. Please encourage your printmaking friends to join San Diego & North County Printmakers; we have a lot to offer.

Your Officers and
Dixon Fish, President
